By the end of the course, learners will be able to create visually engaging documentaries suitable for social media, presentations, or personal projects, all without the need for advanced video editing software.

Welcome to the Canva for Documentary Creators Course.

Learners will gain practical experience using Canva’s key video creation tools, including video timeline editing, text and subtitle overlays, transitions, animations, audio editing, stock video and image libraries, templates, and brand kits. The course will focus on applying these features to create cohesive documentary narratives, combining visuals, narration, and music to convey a story effectively. Practical exercises will guide students to produce short documentary projects from planning to final export.

Software Access

The Practice session requires you to set up a free demo account for the Canva software. A guide on how to do this is provided in the Practice window with step-by-step instructions.

  • Basic familiarity with computers and web-based software.

  • General understanding of storytelling or documentary concepts is helpful but not required.

  • Optional: Access to video clips, images, or audio for practice projects, though sample media will be provided in the course.

    What is the duration of the Course?

    The course is 24 hours long. You can choose your schedule based on your availability:

    • 1 hour daily over 24 days
    • 2 hours daily over 12 days
    • 3 hours daily over 8 days (recommended)
    • 4 hours daily over 6 days

    Will I practice on the software?

    Yes, the course includes hands-on practice. Approximately 50% of the course time is dedicated to practical exercises. Each day consists of a mix of video lectures and practice sessions.

    Can I always refer to the course content after the course duration?

    Yes. All quizzes, exercises, and course materials will remain available on your profile page. However, video access will expire 1 month after your scheduled start date.

    Is the schedule flexible?

    Yes, you can select the schedule that best fits your availability - offering flexibility in how you distribute the course hours and days, as long as you don not exceed one month interval between the first class and the last.

    How do I gain access to the software?

    You can use your own software or the demo version of the software publisher. If we provide complimentary software access, you will receive access to the software either via a temporary login for SaaS applications (accessed through a browser) or through a virtual machine for standalone software - ensuring compatibility and removing your device limitations for heavy software applications.

    Do I get any credential or badge?

    Upon completion of the course, you will receive a certificate or badge recognizing your achievement. You can share this badge to your linkedin profile, download and add images of the badge to your resume, and direct recruiters to view your portfolio of projects.
